So your mobile app developers have created the perfect app for your business. It does everything that you want it to do, which means your users are going to love it. The only problem is that nobody seems to be downloading it. The app is on the App Store, but it’s lost in the sea of millions of other apps.
There are all sorts of techniques you can use to develop your app’s popularity, but one of the most basic is getting your app store screenshot right. A good screenshot goes a long way towards attracting eyes to your mobile app. Get it wrong, and people are just going to scroll past you.

Use the Right Size
A distorted screenshot gives off an aura of unprofessionalism, which is the last thing you want when you’re trying to convince people to download your mobile app. This means you need to get the right size for your screenshot.
The App Store makes this easy with Apple’s Simplified Screenshot Submission Process. Just upload a shot that’s 1242x2208px inches and you should be fine. Apple will alter the image size to suit different screens.
For Google Play, you need at least two screenshots, which should be in JPEG or 24-Bit PNG format. You can vary the size between a minimum of 320px and maximum of 3840px. This means you’re going to have to do a little editing to get the size right. The store will prevent you from uploading an image if the maximum dimension is over twice the size of the minimum. So, if you’re uploading a screenshot with a minimum dimension of 320px, the maximum can be no larger than 640px.
Finally, always remember to check the screenshot once it’s live.
Use Every Tool at Your Disposal
Google Play allows you to upload up to eight images for your app. The App Store limits you to five, but you can also add a video.
There’s no reason not to take advantage of this. The more screenshots you upload, the more info you provide to your potential user. Take as many screenshots as you can, especially if you have a large mobile app that you can sum up in a single image.
Show Users How the App Works
Users want to know that your app is easy to use. Your screenshots are the perfect way to demonstrate how the app works.
Consider creating a story with your screenshots. Show how one screen leads to the next, and how easy it is to move between the different sections of the app. If it looks user-friendly, more people are going to download it. However, you should not try to use onboarding when creating screenshots. This tutorial process works best when the user has the app, not when you’re trying to show it off via the App Store.
Show Off New Features
Let’s assume your app has been live for a while. You’ve probably created some new features that make the app even better.
Do your users know about those features? A description isn’t always enough to catch their attention, so make sure you upload a screenshot of the new feature as well.
